Our honeymoon (day 1)

This will be one of many entries about our honeymoon.

6/14/09:

We woke up at a somewhat decent time (I think 8:30 or 9) and finished packing for the trip. We looked outside and it was raining buckets. Thank you rain for holding off a day (since it was supposed to rain on our wedding day).
We (James, Lex and myself) loaded up the car with our stuff and Lex's stuff and went to go have breakfast with my mom, Dave, Paul, Malisa, Jimmy, Millie, Christopher, George and Janie. After a wonderful breakfast we took Lex to my moms house and unloaded her stuff.
Since her plane didn't leave until Monday afternoon, she was going to stay with my mom since our honeymoon started on Sunday. We said our goodbyes, printed off our directions and headed on our way. We could of gone straight there but Paul's tux needed to be back on Sunday. So we drove up to Kennewick, then back down on our way to Seaside.
The drive wasn't too bad, I really hate navigating through Portland though. Whoever invented exits on the left has some serious mental problems. We were making excellent time and I had James call our hotel to find out when was the latest we could check in. She said that she actually had to close the office at 6. We were in Portland and it was 5:00. It takes something like another hour to get to Seaside from where abouts we were, depending on the traffic.
He told her who we were and she said she'd leave us a note with where to find our room keys incase we weren't there by 6.

Thankfully the traffic going to Seaside wasn't bad. Everyone was leaving when we were going to it. We got in about 6:10 and the office was closed but she left us directions on where to find our room keys. Happily we loaded our suitcases and stuff into our room. Our pretty pretty room. And you know, in all my joy to not be stuck in the car I don't think that I took a photo of our hotel. Thankfully they had one on their website (yay). Our room was the bottom right one. #1.

Inn at the Shore, quite the fantastic place.

And our hotel room was great. King size bed, a door that opened up right onto the prom...

and a 2 person Jacuzzi tub. Or, you know if you really want to stretch out (or are ridiculously tall like someone ahem...) a giant tub for 1.

They also gave you bath salts and soap if you wanted to have a giant bubble bath. And yes, there was a little tv in there.

Or, if you wanted to be like James, you could accidentally dump half the bath salts on the floor. Which was pretty entertaining.
After relaxing a little and on our way to dinner we took a couple pictures to show just how far away from it all. It was at the end of the promenade so there wasn't a whole lot of things around it. Mostly actual residences for people who lived in Seaside.

End of the street and hello ocean!

Our quiet little street.

Finding a place to eat around 9pm is a challenge in Seaside. The entire place closes down around 9. So we went down towards the busy end of town and looked for an open place to eat. The only place that was still open was McKeown's. Well, I'm sure there was a fast food place open (maybe) but we made a decision that we'd only eat at local places our whole trip. I had looked up a lot of different places and reviews of those places online and we thought we'd manage to survive that way.

James and the menu. He was happy about it.

It was a cute little place. It had lots of different seating, and one of the more interesting ones was this.
It's an umbrella...inside.

The food was pretty good too.

Meatloaf and garlic mashed potatoes

Spaghetti and meatballs

Then, since nothing was really opened we walked the streets for a little bit and looking at some of the closed places to see where we might want to go while we were there.

These signs always entertain me. Sadly it was missing the scared stick figure running away.

Cute little starfish

Finally, we made our way back to the hotel and changed our shoes then went for a short walk on the beach under the stars. The beach right outside our hotel was a little different than the beach we had when we were there for my dad's wedding. That beach was just pure sand. Our part of the beach was a few feet of rocks (biiiig rocks) and some drift wood, then the sand and water. Still can't complain. We didn't want to wander too far and were probably gone maybe a half hour. By then we were exhausted and went back to our hotel to get some much needed sleep.
